Luma is a Chrome extension that shows styled, animated captions on YouTube videos. It has no accounts, no analytics, no ads and no tracking, and it never sells or shares your data.

What Luma reads, and where it stays

On YouTube, and in YouTube players embedded on other sites, Luma reads the caption track of the video you’re watching and the audio the YouTube player has already downloaded. It uses them on your computer to draw captions. Audio is processed in memory and then discarded; it is never uploaded, stored or sent to us.

When a video has no captions, Luma can write them with Whisper, a speech-recognition model that runs inside your browser. You choose whether to download a model. It comes from Hugging Face (huggingface.co), which, like any download, sees your IP address.

What Luma stores

Your Luma settings, the Whisper models you download and, if you buy Luma Pro, your license key are stored in your browser. Removing Luma deletes them.

Buying Luma Pro

Luma Pro is a one-time purchase. Checkout happens on a page hosted by Stripe, which collects your email address and payment details under Stripe’s privacy policy. We never see your full card number.

Luma’s license server, hosted on Cloudflare, receives only the ID of your checkout, asks Stripe whether it was paid, and sends back a license key. Our Stripe account keeps a record of the purchase (your email, the amount and the date). We use it only to provide and support your purchase, for example to handle a refund.

Services Luma connects to

YouTube (youtube.com), for the video’s own caption tracks. Hugging Face, only when you download a Whisper model. Luma’s license server and Stripe, only when you buy Luma Pro. These services process your IP address to answer requests. Luma doesn’t contact any other server.

Your choices

You can delete Whisper models in the Luma popup, and remove all of Luma’s data by removing the extension. To ask about or delete a purchase record, contact the developer through the support link on Luma’s Chrome Web Store page.

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new date.
